This week in English, we have been diving deeper into how semicolons work and experimenting with using them in our portal stories. We have been practising joining ideas, building suspense, and making our writing feel more mature. Alongside this, we have been planning our good characters, thinking carefully about their personalities, strengths, and how they will react when they step into their mysterious new worlds. In our class novel, we have now met Aslan properly, and Edmund has finally been rescued from the White Witch. The whole class is feeling a mixture of relief and nervous excitement as we wait to see what will happen next, especially with the battle drawing closer.
In maths, we have been working hard on equivalent fractions. We have been learning how to use multiplication and division to find new fractions that look different but mean the same thing. We’ve used fraction walls, number lines, and lots of practice examples to help us spot patterns. On top of that, we have been sharpening our recall of the 7 times table, aiming to become quicker and more confident each day.
Our afternoons have been just as busy. In geography, we have started exploring Australia, looking at its unique landscapes, wildlife, and where it sits in the world. In history, we have been introduced to the transatlantic slave trade, beginning to understand how and why it happened and why it is such an important part of world history. In science, we have been learning about forces, investigating pushes, pulls, friction, and gravity through hands‑on activities and class discussions.
Art has been especially exciting this term. We are studying Chinese art, looking at traditional techniques, brushwork, and the meanings behind different symbols and styles. We are already buzzing with ideas about the pieces we are going to create and can’t wait to start experimenting with our own designs.
