What an extra exciting week of fun learning we had in Year One this week!
On Tuesday we welcomed the Science Dome into school, with a focus on retrieving our knowledge and skills based on our seasons and weather unit last term. The children were so excited to go inside the dome and they were mesmerised by the seasons and weather images and films projected onto the inside of the dome. They were knowledgably able to answer questions and to show their understanding of this topic. Great recall, Year One! It was so lovely to see the children's awe and wonder at the projected stars above them, and the night slowly turning into day as the sun rose into the sky on a beautiful spring day.
On Thursday we all enjoyed World Book Day! What amazing costumes the Year One children had, truly bringing books and characters to life!
2026 is the National Year of Reading and the clear message this year is that reading is FUN! We shared how there is something for everybody in reading, from different worlds, to different times and places. We talked about the different types of reading and where and when we can make time to read together and on our own.
Year One had a magical day reading stories, sharing favourite books, taking part in a school costume parade, spotting and counting book characters in maths, sharing what they like to read about and having lots of fun learning through book-related activities.
Thank you for all your help and time at home in putting together costumes. It made the day very special for Year One children.
