In our daily Maths lessons Year One children have been exploring length and height. They have learned how to measure with finger steps and cubes, and moved on to the standard units of centimetres. The children have developed their mathematical vocabulary using words such as 'longer', 'shorter', 'tallest' and 'shortest' when comparing objects in the classroom.
The children also continue to build their understanding of partitioning and recall of addition and subtraction facts of the teen numbers. We will continue with this number learning all the way to the number bonds of 20. Counting in different ways and steps remains essential as it underpins all of our mathematical learning.
In our Sounds Write Phonics lessons we have been learning the different ways to represent the /u/ sound in spelling. We have revised the sound spelling correspondences for the sound /oo/ as in 'moon' and written sentences that are punctuated correctly.
The children are working hard to continue to develop their handwriting skills, forming and sizing their letters carefully.
