What a brilliant start to Year 5 it’s been! We’ve hit the ground running with exciting new topics, lively discussions, and lots of learning already underway.
➕ Maths Magic
We’ve dived into our new curriculum and discovered two new place values: 10,000s and 100,000s! It’s been fascinating exploring how numbers grow and change, and we’ve had some great class conversations about patterns, problem-solving strategies, and what we notice when we work together. Big numbers, big thinking!
✍️ English Adventures
In English, we’ve been working towards writing a biography on David Almond, the author of our class book Skellig. His life and writing are so inspiring, and it’s been exciting to learn more about him. We’ve also been brushing up on our grammar skills—recapping fronted adverbials, subordinate clauses, and lots more to help make our writing shine.
🌍 Afternoon Explorations
Our afternoons have been packed with discovery:
- In Geography, we’ve started exploring spatial sense—learning how we understand and represent space around us.
- In History, we’ve travelled back in time to Old Baghdad, uncovering the wonders of this ancient city.
- In Science, we’ve begun investigating the heart—how it works, why it’s so important, and what keeps it healthy.
It’s been a fantastic first week back, full of curiosity, creativity, and connection. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
