On Friday Year One children were very excited to welcome Ada's Mum Kat to our classroom to talk to us about her amazing job of being an archeologist. The children listened intently as Kat explained what her job involves and they asked some great questions to deepen their understanding. This learning builds on the children's knowledge and understanding of our history unit 'Discovering History' and we were so grateful to Kat for literally bringing the definition of 'archaeologist' to life for our children!
The children looked at pictures of what an archeological dig looks like and some artefacts from the ground. Kat explained each one carefully and then the children were able to touch some real artefacts that she had brought into our classroom. They then had even more opportunity to get some hands on practical experience digging in the sand to discover some treasures for themselves, which the children loved! They could also design and build their own mosaic patterns, which looked beautiful.
We finished the session by thanking Kat for sharing her knowledge and skills with our class. What a great learning experience for Year One!
