Welcome back to the Summer Term in Year One!
It was lovely to greet Year One children and welcome them back to school on Monday. There were lots of smiles all around!
This term the children will be continuing with an indoor PE session on Thursday and an outdoor PE session on Friday. Forest Schools will continue to be on Tuesday afternoon. After the half-term holiday, our Friday PE session will be replaced with swimming at the Hudson Leisure Centre. We are also planning more learning opportunities and visits beyond the classroom. Details to follow nearer the time.
This week the children have worked on the fractions half and quarter of both shapes and amounts. We will be learning the mathematical vocabulary associated with position and direction next. In PE this week, the children gave each other directions in their 'cars' which were going at different speeds. There were lots of shouts of "left, right, forwards, backwards and turn!" It was a lot of fun but also great preparation for our next Maths unit.
On Friday the children used the pastel crayons to create their own version of a photo depicting a mountain's reflection in a lake. They worked calmly and carefully with impressive results. They all worked in the same style, but with very individual results.
Great work, Year One!
