It was lovely to see Year One children happily returning to school this week. We can't quite believe that this is the final half term of Year One! What a busy, brilliant year it has been so far. Lots of learning and lots of fun along the way!
This week the children were very excited to plant a tree on the school field, as part of our Eco focus and development of our school grounds. Our Year One tree is a beautiful cherry tree and all the children had a turn to plant, water or dig the soil as part of this important venture.
In the classroom, the children have also been busy creating their own 'Energy Pledge Tree' which has involved them making a promise to help reduce the amount of energy we use. The children suggested many great ideas, from turning off the lights when they are not needed, to walking or cycling to school rather than making the journey by car. Each pledge forms a leaf on our tree, and it looks beautiful...... just like our real tree on the field!
Well done to all the Year one children for your amazing behaviour and effort in the pool for their first school swimming lesson this week. Thank you to all parents for helping us to prepare for this important activity, and for being so positive with the children about learning to swim. As a school we want all children to be able to swim well by the time they leave us in Year 6, as it is such a valuable life skill.
A great start to your learning to swim journey, Year one!
