What a great day we had at the Wisbech Reads Literacy Festival on Tuesday!
We started off the at the Library, learning about all it has to offer and hearing about the Summer Reading Challenge. We will hear more about this in a special assembly in school in a few weeks time. Please also see the poster in our classroom window. The children also made their own rice shaker musical instrument, linked to the reading challenge theme of 'Read to the Beat.'
We then walked to the Wisbech and Fenland Museum. In the museum, the children experienced three great activities. One was to explore the museum by spotting artefacts related to mythical dragons. Another activity was to create their own dragon eye out of modelling dough. The third activity was to hold and discuss some amazing fossils and artefacts linked to real creatures that once walked our earth. They were all so exciting and the museum was a real treasure trove of amazing things to see and do!
After lunch we met Ellie Sandall, author of many animal storybooks which she has also beautifully illustrated. Ellie gave the children a masterclass in how to draw one of the dog characters in her books. The children loved creating their own dog character and giving it a name.
Back in school the children have been excited to find some of Ellie's books in our school library to take home on Friday.
Well done to all the Year One children for trying their very best in the statutory Phonics Screening Check this week.
